Brief Anatomy of The Eye
The human eye is a complex organ that allows us to see by capturing and processing light. It is composed of several different parts, each with a specific function.
The outermost layer of the eye is the sclera, a tough white layer that helps to protect the inner structures of the eye.
The front of the eye is covered by the cornea, a clear layer that helps to focus light as it enters the eye.
The iris, the colored part of the eye, surrounds the pupil and helps to control the amount of light that enters the eye by adjusting the size of the pupil.
The lens, located behind the iris, further focuses light onto the retina at the back of the eye.
The retina is a thin layer of light-sensitive cells lining the back of the eye. It contains two types of cells called rods and cones, which are responsible for detecting light and color, respectively. The macula is a small, specialized area of the retina that is responsible for sharp, central vision, while the rest of the retina is responsible for peripheral vision.
The optic nerve, made up of a bundle of nerve fibers, carries visual information from the retina to the brain. The choroid, a layer of blood vessels and connective tissue, provides oxygen and nutrients to the retina.
The ciliary body, a ring-shaped muscle located around the lens, helps to change the shape of the lens for accommodation which allow us to focus on things at varying distances. The vitreous humor, a gel-like substance that fills the eye and helps to maintain its shape.
